1976 BMW 2002 Automatic M42 Swap
What a pretty car this was (and this is). This was the 3rd M42 swap we did for the same customer. These were really what started it all. This started out as a straight forward M42 swap (with an automatic trans) but it turned out to be another learning process. Once the engine was in the car it would run but it would kick, buck, spit flames, and run like complete garbage. After hours of diagnosis we came to learn that the M42 only used a 180 degree thrust bearing and well they liked to wear due to that. The first engine that went into this car had around 1/4" of crank walk (aka in an out play of the crank). So out the engine came and another was put in it's place. The second one ran MUCH better.
